Her Majesty the Queen Mother Tshering Yangdon Wangchuck on 2nd November 2014 led a Sponsored Walk to help raise funds for the Bhutan Nuns Foundation, of which Her Majesty is the Royal Patron. The 48 km-walk began at Tamche Monastery at 4 am and ended at Lhai Ding (Hedey) on Sunday via Kichu Monastery.
Proceeds from the walk will benefit future BNF projects and include improving the living quarters of the nuns and construction of the training and retreat center, for the benefit of all Bhutanese nuns throughout the country.
It is a traditional belief that visiting all three sites on foot in one day will gain a pilgrim exceptional merit.
